For the time being, we have decided to cancel, postpone, or move online all CIRAS in-person events. Webinars will continue as planned. MOBILE ELEVATING WORK PLATFORM (MEWP)

Details: Aerial lift platforms such as boom lifts, scissor lifts and stock pickers, are called Mobile Elevating Work Platforms or MEWPs. MEWPs can be found in a variety of work settings. They are often used in place of ladders and scaffolds as they allow easier and safer access to places on the worksite especially when working at higher elevations. LEADING INDICATORS TO IMPROVE S/H OUTCOMES

Details: Leading indicators can play a vital role in preventing worker fatalities, injuries, and illnesses and strengthening other safety and health outcomes in the workplace. Leading indicators are proactive and preventive measures that can shed light about the effectiveness of safety and health activities and reveal potential problems in a safety and health program. Leading indicators are a valuable tool regardless of whether you have a safety or health program, what you have included in your program, or what stage you may be at in your program. Lagging indicators measure the occurrence and frequency of events that occurred in the past, such as the number or rate of injuries, illnesses, and fatalities. While lagging indicators can alert you to a failure in an area of your safety and health program or to the existence of a hazard, leading indicators are important because they can tell you whether your safety and health activities are effective at preventing incidents. OSHA 500 TRAINER COURSE FOR CONSTRUCTION

Details: The OSHA 500 class authorizes participants who complete this train-the-trainer course to conduct 10 & 30 hour outreach classes to the construction industry and issue OTI Construction 10 & 30 hour participation cards. Course time is spent learning and practicing adult training techniques. Students will participate in the development and delivery of lectures covering construction safety topics during class. As a prerequisite for the class, participants must provide verification of 510 class attendance, and management confirmation of at least 5 years of relevant safety experience.

OSHA 2255 ERGONOMICS

Details: This course covers the use of ergonomics principles to recognize, evaluate, and control workplace conditions that cause or contribute to musculoskeletal and nerve disorders. Course topics include work physiology, anthropometry, musculoskeletal disorders, use of video display terminals, and risk factors such as vibration, temperature, material handling, repetition, and lifting and patient transfers in health care. Course emphasis is on industrial case studies covering analysis and design of work stations and equipment workshops in manual lifting, and coverage of current OSHA compliance policies and guidelines. Upon course completion students will have the ability to recognize work-related musculoskeletal and nerve disorders, assess employer's ergonomic programs, and conduct ergonomic evaluations. The Iowa-Illinois Safety Council offers this OSHA course as a Host Training Organization of The Great Plains OSHA Education Center.
