You are a Certified Targeted Small Business- What's Next? (webinar)

Details: This webinar series is provided in partnership with Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA) and Targeted Small Business (TSB) program with the State of Iowa. This webinar is useful for companies that have recently received their TSB certification from the State of Iowa. The session will provide information on next steps and considerations to take advantage of the procurement opportunities for TSB's with the state of Iowa. We will explore the structure of the state and independent buying agencies and review the types of products and services they buy, discuss in greater detail the procurement benefits to the program, how to best do business with the state as a vendor and TSB, as well as marketing best practices. We will also discuss additional procurement and preference programs that you may be eligible for as a TSB. This session is also suitable for companies that are eligible for TSB certification, but would like to review the procurement processes and opportunities prior to pursuing certification.

Details: Are you looking for a quick introduction to the world of doing business with the federal government? Join CIRAS and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at the Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance on January 29 to gain tips for navigating the world of federal government contracting. This 2ВЅ-hour event will include an overview of the best practices for working with the federal government. Trained experts will explain how the government makes purchases, how to find the best opportunities for your company, and how to be effective when reaching out to join forces with another business as a subcontractor. You’ll learn how to gauge your suitability for potential contracts, how to access small business preference programs, and how to register in all the appropriate places. In addition to the January 29 presentations, event attendees will have the chance to schedule one-on-one appointments with Beth White, the deputy director of small business at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. This is a great opportunity to make a direct connection with a federal agency and gain a better understanding of potential opportunities. Appointments are available from 1:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Monday, January 28, and from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 29. Details: This 1.5 hour session will give you an introduction of Government Contracting and discuss the various factors you may want to consider before entering this market. We'll discuss how the Government market differs from the commercial market, the pros and cons of servicing this market, how the government buys, and all the various steps required in order to sell to the Government. Prerequisite: There are no recommended prerequisites for this session.

 

Subcontracting Opportunities

Details: This online session will help attendees understand subcontracting opportunities and where these opportunities may be a better fit for some companies and industries, as well as a great initial way to build past performance. This session will also help companies understand subcontracting plans, will provide some tactical processes to identify subcontracting opportunities and will provide an overview of how to effectively perform initial outreach for subcontracting marketing. Prerequisite: It is recommended that you participate in GovCon 101, or have had a one-on-one meeting with a CIRAS Government contracting specialist prior to attending this session. Attending one of our Market Research workshops can also help you determine whether subcontracting is appropriate, but it is not required.

There is no hotter topic in federal government contracting than teaming and joint venturing. Whether you are a small business looking to expand your capabilities or a large business looking for access to set-aside contracts, teaming and joint venturing can greatly expand your federal contracting opportunities. While most contractors know the terms, many do not fully understand the requirements of enforceable agreements. When done incorrectly, teaming and joint venturing can have serious consequences. During this webinar, experienced government contracting attorney Maria Panichelli will explain how contractors can use teaming, joint venturing and the mentor protГ©gГ© program to their advantage. Attendees will learn proper procedures for entering into an enforceable teaming agreement and the essential clauses to include in these types of agreements, as well as common pitfalls to avoid. Attendees will also learn how to form an eligible small business JVs, and how to navigate the SBA mentor-protГ©gГ© programs. The practical implications of negotiating terms of a teaming or JV agreement from both the prime and subcontractor perspectives will be discussed.

 

US Army Corps of Engineers-RI Industry Day

Details: This Industry Day is valuable to companies in the following industries: Civil and Marine Construction, Site and Earthwork, Environmental, Building, and general contractors, landscaping/mowing and services to support recreational areas, and any suppliers that would support these industries (concrete, riprap, etc.) The event will be an opportunity for you to connect with technical experts for all of our programs, contracting, small business office and senior leadership.
