| A World Wide Web
site is a powerful marketing tool for any business. However, the jargon and technical
details can be overwhelming. You need unbiased support to help find your way through
the fog and develop your vision for an Internet marketing solution. CIRAS can assist with needs analysis, development of the web site, search engine registration and training and support after the site's launch. Needs Analysis When it comes to deciding what services to put on your web site, there are many options. Most sites provide customers with an on-line product guide and a method to send feedback. The Internet is also very useful as an information resource for your distributors and wholesalers. New product specifications or price information can be placed on the web site, so dealers don't have to wait for important information to come in the mail. To help you plan a competitive Internet presence and a web site with a unique look, we will perform a comprehensive search of other sites in your industry. Site Development A simple web site can be created from your existing product literature. Product photos can be scanned from your brochures or prints that you provide. Another alternative is for CIRAS staff to visit your work site for product photos. Using the latest technology in digital photography, we can transfer images directly from an electronic camera to the web server. You will have every opportunity to review draft versions of your web site. We will incorporate your revisions, working with you every step of the way to develop the best site possible. Search Registration Developing a web site is only part of the process. Stopping at this point would be akin to getting an unlisted toll-free telephone line for your sales personnel. To tell the world about your new web site, it's necessary to register with search engines. A search engine is a web site that maintains an index of pages on the Web. CIRAS will register your site with all the popular search engines, including Yahoo!, InfoSeek, Excite, and others. After your site is registered, Web users can find the site by entering keywords related to your products or company name. It is not a daunting task to perform the actual search registrations. However, getting the site listed prominently requires considerable planning throughout the development of the site. Knowledge of the search engines' operation is also necessary. You won't have to worry about any of that - we'll take care of it. Training and Support When the web site is up and running, you won't be left to fend for yourself. We offer several levels of training, from basic Internet concepts to maintaining the web site on your own. CIRAS can provide on-site training for a few people or your entire staff on the basics of using the Internet to find information. This session includes a discussion on how to take advantage of your web site to get information to customers, save mailing costs and better utilize sales representatives' time. Case in Point The marketing experts at Wayne Engineering already had a good idea of what they wanted in a web site. Of course, they wanted an on-line product guide and an easy way for prospective customers to contact them. They also wanted a fast, cost-effective way to provide their dealers and distributors with specifications, schematic drawings, and other technical information. "We were looking for more sales exposure domestically and internationally. The web seemed like a logical route since most businesses are becoming more and more dependent on the net for information," said Rita Cyrzan, sales coordinator at Wayne. "CIRAS provided us with an excellent marketing tool."
Wayne sent their sales brochures, product photos and product specifications to CIRAS. The materials were used to develop a detailed web site. After an introduction to the completed site, the Wayne sales and marketing team was set free to click through the links and check out the special features CIRAS had incorporated. "We felt that the product [web site] exceeded our expectations. CIRAS provided us with an excellent marketing tool," Cyrzan said. Jason L. Kelly ( kellyj@pobox.com), an Iowa State student in computer science and journalism, developed many of the CIRAS client web sites. He is now a consultant for Microsoft Corporation and a freelance technical journalist. |
