CIRAS staff win honors

by Richard Grieve, Interim Director, CIRAS

Several CIRAS staff members have recently received recognition for excellence in their work. The goal of all members of the CIRAS staff is to provide the very best service possible to our clients and the support organizations with which we work, and when members of the group are recognized by outside organizations we are especially gratified. The recent award winners are:

Dan Meyer, Field Agent, Ottumwa area

The Modernization Forum, associated with the NIST Manufacturing Extension Program of which CIRAS is an affiliate, recognized Dan Meyer as a winner of the 1997 Practitioner Award at the National Conference held in Kansas City, Missouri, in April. Dan was one of several recognized for a distinguished record of service to manufacturing clients within the last year. Competitors for this award included over 1,000 members of 70 Manufacturing Meyer Extension Partner Centers in the nation.

Merle Pochop, Field Agent, Sioux City area

Merle Pochop was honored for his work within the American Society of Quality Control (ASQC) when he received a "Champion for Quality Award" at a statewide ASQC meeting in March in Williamsburg, Iowa. The award cited Merle for his three-year effort to organize and support an ASQC chapter in the Siouxland area. The local chapter, headed by Joan Thurber, serves as a professional development resource organization for area manufacturers and processors.

Don Brown, Field Agent, Cedar Rapids area

Don Brown received an award for his work as Council Chairman for the Woods Quality Center Council during 1996. The Woods Quality Center (WQC) is a community quality network based in seven counties around the Cedar Rapids area. Members of the WQC are primarily organizations from all segments of society, with heavy emphasis on manufacturing and education. Most of the services offered are directed at continuous quality improvement. Don was instrumental in the formation of this group and has been very active in its activities and development.

I join all CIRAS/IMTC members in congratulating Dan, Merle, and Don for their fine efforts and very much deserved recognition. An inspiration for us all!
