What is electronic commerce for manufacturers?

The US Department of Defense is the global leader in obtaining parts using electronic (paperless) protocols. Using electronic commerce has helped both the military and prime contractors speed the development, improve the quality, and reduce the cost of new military products and systems. It has also created new programs such as Precision Outreach that aid in the development process.

What are the benefits of electronic commerce?

  • Improve quality
  • Enable participation in product design
  • Enable participation in supply chain
  • Enable integration of manufacturing processes with potential customers
  • Increases customer satisfaction
  • Competitive advantage in supplying manufactured components to military agencies and prime contractors
