What is noise control?

Noise control is the identification and reduction of occupational, community, and individual product noise or "unwanted sound."  Since noise is closely associated with performance and efficiency, reducing noise often increases product performance.  Design modifications are frequently required to get an effective reduction; consequently, noise control is best implemented at the beginning of the product development cycle.  Alternatively, less-effective methods of noise control are also possible.
See in-depth information and related links. In depth information on this topic.

What are the benefits of noise control?

Improved product performance and/or efficiency.

Improved product acoustics leading to

  • improved sound quality.
  • regulatory compliance.

Reduced worker exposure levels leading to

  • improved employee morale.
  • improved productivity.
  • reduced stress-related lost-time and associated costs.
  • reduced worker error.
  • reduced noise-induced health risk.
  • regulatory compliance.

What can CIRAS do for my company?

CIRAS will assist Iowa manufacturers by providing technical assistance in the area of noise control.  CIRAS staff and ISU resources will work with you in product development to help you achieve improved sound quality and/or regulatory compliance.
